Join Us on a Journey of Discovery We are experimental physicists, materials scientists, and explorers of the unknown. On any given day, we might be engineers, problem solvers, or designers of new quantum landscapes. At the heart of our research is curiosity—an unyielding drive to push boundaries and uncover the secrets of quantum materials.
Our lab is more than just a place to work; it’s a community built on mutual respect, clear boundaries, and continuous support. We believe that passion is the driving force behind impactful research, and we are committed to creating an environment where every student and researcher can explore their interests, grow intellectually, and make their own unique contributions. We see our group as a stepping stone—a place where critical thinking shapes scientific exploration, and each new challenge is an opportunity to learn, collaborate, and uncover a little more of nature’s mysteries.
We are always excited to welcome motivated and curious students and researchers to join our team! If you have a passion for cutting-edge quantum materials, a rive to push boundaries, and a desire to be part of a supportive and collaborative research environment, we would love to hear from you.
Bring your curiosity, creativity, and authentic self. Let’s get one step closer to understanding the wonders of nature—together.
Postdocs
We are seeking highly motivated postdoctoral researchers with expertise in thin film deposition and transport characterization or angle-resolve photoemission spectroscopy and X-ray scattering. Interested candidates please email Prof. Song with a CV, a short statement of research interests and proposed work in our group, and contact information for 2-3 potential references. It would also be helpful if your advisor reaches out to Prof. Song directly.
Graduate Students
Current UCI graduate students in Material Science and Engineering (MSE), Physics, or related field, please email Prof. Song to discuss potential research projects. Prospective students should apply to the graduate program in MSE, and refer to the department page for admissions-related inquiries. We encouraged candidates to contact Professor Song prior to submitting an application to discuss research interests, potential projects, and fellowship opportunities.
Undergraduates and Visiting Students
We welcome undergraduate and visiting students from MSE, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering sciences, and related fields to explore research opportunities in our group. Please email Prof. Song to set up a time to discuss opportunities.
